You Need God as a Crutch | Whattaya Do?

Have you ever been in a situation where someone finds out you’re a Christian and says “you need God as a crutch”, basically you NEED there to be a God.

In reality, they’re saying that there is some kind of need you have that you are too weak to handle on your own.  So, because you are not as strong and smart as them, you psychologically create an imaginary friend to bail you out.

In other words, you need there to be a God to compensate for your mental inability to handle the situation on your own like an adult – it’s a psychological state of mind and nothing more.  This is a tactic to diminish your position and make theirs look like the more mentally stable and stronger position.

                                   So, Whattya Do?

You can respond like this:  Well, since this is a psychological state of mind and you say I need there to be a God, I say “You need there to NOT be a God”!

My belief in God, and your disbelief in a God, doesn’t make either position true or false.

Maybe you feel guilty about something you did, and if God existed there would be some consequence to your actions, so you pretend that there is no God – no ultimate authority to answer to and therefore no ultimate consequence.

However, that’s just your psychological position.

You need there NOT to be a God as a crutch for your mental inability to deal with the consequences of your actions.

As you can see, you can turn the tables pretty easily on that one.
