It was 499 years ago that Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the church door at Wittenburg and thankfully so. He recognized the need to stand for what is biblically true and the church has never been the same since. As the Catholic church sought the need for works, purgatory, indulgences, relics and keeping the bible out of the hands of the layman, Luther was transformed by Romans 1:17 where Paul quotes Hababkukk “the just shall live by faith”. The doctrine of justification by faith alone was “reborn” and brought to the people again.
After reading that verse, Luther said “it was as if the doors of paradise swung open and he walked through”. It was at that moment that he was born again and received the righteousness of Christ by faith.
If you belong to a Protestant church, it is indirectly because of what Luther did 499 years ago!
In a day and age of biblical illiteracy, we continually need to stand for the truth of the Word of God! Semper Reformanda!
