Can you guess what book that might be? If you guessed the bible, you’re right.
The bible has been around for over 4000 years as the old testament was written by Moses. This “book” was the basis of our judicial system when the early settlers came to this country and established the government. At that time, most everyone was associated with a church and had a basic belief in God, and more specifically Jesus. Judeo-Christian values are the bedrock of our current legal system. In addition to that, the church was a necessary part of society as it provided assistance to the needy – something the government tries to do now.
So why is this book now so controversial?
The simple reason is because the bible is God’s word and people are enemies of God – they hate Him. The bible instructs us how to live holy lives in submission to God and people want to live according to their own standard. The heart of man is sinful and does not want to take direction from God.
The heart of the problem is the problem of the heart. Even professed believers “worship Him with their lips, but their hears are far from him.”
The bible itself says that people will reject God’s words. Psalm 50:17 says “you cast my words behind you”, and “for the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.” 2 Ti 4:3–4). We are living in that day and age right now where mankind wants to determine their own reality: what gender a person wants to be, what people can and can’t say freely, when they can kill their own offspring, who they can marry, who they can divorce, what drugs should be legal, and, when God can and can’t be spoken about.
When man’s heart begins to rule, chaos and confusion will reign.
What I find ironic is the book that commands it’s followers to love it’s neighbor and enemies is controversial, yet the book that commands it’s followers to kill infidels is not controversial.
This book has changed more people’s live for the better than any other since it’s God’s word. Biblical Christianity has done more good for the world than any other religion or organization. Even most Ivy League schools started off as Christian institutions; Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, Oxford and Cambridge, have produced some of the brightest minds in the world.
The bible should be number one on the most controversial list as it points out the depravity of man and the Lordship of Jesus – two things that will never change. It’s also been the number one best seller for the past 75 years even though the NY Times doesn’t list it.
Read God’s word for yourself and see what the controversy is all about.
