Every year people flock to Disney to enjoy the magic kingdom and one of the lesser known secrets known as “hidden Mickeys”. Hidden Mickeys are images of Mickey Mouse concealed in the design of a Disney attraction (ride, resort, etc…).
Originally, they took the shape of a head and ears silhouette, , i.e. one large circle with two smaller circled on top in the appropriate place, but Hidden Mickeys can take on many forms (see the one on the right).
Parents and adults love to spot these hidden Mickey’s throughout the park and even in most Disney movies. It’s almost as if the mouse himself has revealed his presence to you through these images.
I think the same can be said about our universe; here’s three reasons why:
1. In Psalm 1, David says:
“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.”
There is no doubt that when you look to the skies and see the stars that there is something of immense proportions going on here. The sheer enormity of it is staggering, and seeing the symphony of stars and galaxies moving together calls for a conductor directing it all.
Can you really say the heavens, or Disney World, happened by chance? Um, it’s so not hidden that even Goofy wouldn’t say that!
2. The Apostle Paul says this about God:
For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
Did it ever dawn on you that invisible attributes can be seen? The power necessary to create the universe and sustain it is incalculable. We know the universe had a beginning, so there would be no way it could have brought itself into existence. Only something with limitless power could make this happen. Since time, space and matter came into existence, whatever brought it into existence must be timeless, spaceless, immaterial, intelligent and very, very powerful.
The effect known as the universe bears clear evidence to the invisible cause behind it – even Mickey would admit that much.
3. In Genesis, the creation account reads:
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”
Wow! Mickey was created in the image of a mouse, but we’re created in the image of God! It is apparent that humanity is set apart from everything else ever created, so much so that we bear the image of the creator himself! Let that sink in for a minute.
There might be intelligence and love behind a cartoon mouse, but there is much more intelligence and love behind humanity. The invisible image of God bears witness inside you of good and evil, justice and mercy, and love and grace – that doesn’t come from arbitrary particles, and you are no mouse.
Could the intelligence and mind behind the creation of the Disney characters be nothing more than a blind, random assembly of molecules flowing the big bang? The Genie from Aladdin couldn’t pull that one off.
