The answer seems obvious, but there are some people who say “what’s true for you is true for you, and what’s true for me is true for me”. The people who say these things are known as relativists, and they ultimately deny the objectivity of truth. Denying objective truth can be dangerous to your health. Ever try to stop someone from running into traffic that said “don’t worry, I don’t believe in trucks!”? Neither did I.
Here is a simple acronym to help you understand the necessity of truth:
T – testable. Without truth, you could not test anything and come to a “true” conclusion.
You couldn’t have the laws of logic or tell someone to not run into traffic.
R – reality. You could not even define reality if truth didn’t exist. What could be real?
You couldn’t have reality because you’d need something to compare it to.
The difference between reality and unreality proves that one or the other is true.
U – universal. In order to have any understanding of anything, truth must exist universally.
Is there any place that truth doesn’t exist?
T – timeless. Truth is timeless – in other words, truth has existed whether or not time has existed.
If there was ever a time when time didn’t exist, it was true that time didn’t exist. whew!
H – hypocritical. It’s hypocritical to say truth doesn’t exist.
All you have to ask is “is it true that truth doesn’t exist?” Truth can’t lie!
You can’t even use the word hypocritical if truth doesn’t exist!
Conclusion: Truth is eternal-timeless, universal-omnipresent, unchanging – it is a reflection of the character of God!
God is eternal-timeless, changeless, omnipresent, and never lies.
The truth was a who before it was a what!
